The last couple days has been a buzz about flexible displays, because after an incredibly long time where all we heard was "the flexible displays are coming", the message has finally shifted to "they're almost here!" We learned that LG has been working on flexible components, like batteries, to go along with new curved displays, and the rumor put Samsung announcing its new curved glass smartphone this week.
An
FCC filing has put the name of Samsung's new line of flexible glass
devices as the Galaxy Round, and now @evleaks has released what look
like the first two images of the upcoming curved display device from
Samsung. The images show a device that looks like it is bound for the
South Korean market, based not only on the Korean text, but the
LTE-Advanced branding on the back. It also includes the same fake
stitching that we saw on the new Galaxy Note 3 and Note 10.1 (2014
edition).
Of course, the big news here is the
curved display. It looks to have a fairly pronounced curve, and unlike
some concepts we've seen which used the curve to wrap the screen around
the side, this first one looks like it is just aiming for ergonomics
during the rare times that you're actually using your smartphone as a
phone. The curve should make it more comfortable against your face. This
is just the first flexible display device, so the more innovative
designs are likely still in the works.
